BUSINESSWOMAN Emma Romans, owner of Betty Brown Wigs store, may be a new face in the town but her glittering cast of former clients will be familiar faces to millions.  For wig fitting expert Emma honed her grooming skills during years in the world of show business, styling the hair of a galaxy of actors and actresses who starred in a whole host of audience grabbing TV programmes.

In fact Emma’s expertise was in such demand that she was called in to tend the locks and fix the wigs of big names in a host of TV dramas as well as styling the hair of players in the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Styling the hair of players in an RSC performance with Prince Charles and Camilla in attendance was perhaps among Emma’s proudest moments.

My experiences taught me a great deal about people and personalities, that wearing wigs and hairpieces can inspire confidence and character and create good body image,” said Emma Speaking from her shop in Westminster Arcade.

I spent some time working with people who feel like they have suffered bereavement and loss as a result of alopecia or serious illness. The effect of hair loss on someone battling cancer can be devastating and is not always acknowledged by the medical professionals" added Emma who joined campaigning hair-stylist Trevor Sorbie on his mission to raise awareness of the problem and to raise funds.. Betty Brown’s wig shop opened in York in 2009 and it has grown into the region’s one-stop-shop for help and advice for anyone suffering hair loss.

Although Betty Brown's supplies wigs from a wide variety of manufacturers, Emma has used the opening of the new shop to introduce a new lightweight range of wigs called the Feather Premier Collection.

Feather Collection wigs have super fine lace fronts, undetectable hairlines and hand made mesh which makes them feel lighter, softer and undetectable.

“Lightweight and comfortable, they come in a range of styles to suit everybody,” explained Emma. “They look totally natural and are so comfortable to wear that people forget they are wearing a wig.

“But whatever type or style of wig is required; we will try to find the most suitable for every customer.”
