How to Care for Your Human Hair Wig: Essential Maintenance Tips

To ensure your wig remains vibrant, soft, and long-lasting, following a proper care routine is essential. From heat styling to washing techniques, here is our expert guide to maintaining your investment.

1. Styling with Heat

While you can use heated rollers, hair dryers, and straightening irons on human hair wigs, they should always be used with caution.

  • Keep it Cool: Always use the "cool" or "low" heat settings.
  • Protect the Colour: Excessive heat will dry out the hair fibres and cause your professional colour to fade prematurely.

2. The Washing Process

How you wash your wig determines its lifespan. Follow these steps to prevent damage:

Step 1: Secure the wig onto a polystyrene block.

Step 2: Use cool water only. Gently stroke the shampoo from the root through to the tip.

Step 3: Crucial: Do not rub the hair. Rubbing causes tangles and can lead to the knots at the base loosening, causing shedding.

3. Recommended Products

Not all hair products are created equal when it comes to wigs. We recommend:

  • Moisturising & Colour-Protecting: Use specialized shampoos and conditioners designed to lock in hydration.
  • Water-Based Stylers: When using styling products, water-based options are preferable. They wash out much easier than "heavy" waxes or oil-based products which can build up over time.

Pro Tip: The Drying Phase

For the best results, we recommend leaving the hair to dry naturally, only styling once the hair is damp. If you must blow-dry, use minimal tension to protect the roots and prevent unnecessary stress on the cap construction.

Proper care will significantly prolong the life and beauty of your wig.
