Donating to the Little Princess Trust
Inspired by Jessie J’s famous 2013 head shave? You can help provide wigs for children by donating your hair. Here is everything you need to know to ensure your donation is usable.
✅ Suitable Hair
- Clean, dry, and in good condition
- Natural colours (any gender)
- Straight, wavy, or chemically straightened
- Odd greys (less than 10%)
- Layered (shortest layer must be 7”/17cm)
- Old plaits/ponytails if well-preserved
❌ Unsuitable Hair
- Length under 7” (17cm)
- Unnatural colours (blue, green, purple)
- Largely/mostly grey hair
- Afro or Dreadlocks*
- Hair extensions
*Note: The Trust buys Afro wigs from specialists separately.
Step-by-Step Donation Guidelines
- Wash and Dry: Wash your hair immediately before the cut. Do not add styling products (conditioner is fine). Never send wet hair, as it will rot in the post.
- Secure: Tie hair into several plaits or ponytails. Secure them with elastic bands at both the root end and the tip.
- The Cut: Ask your hairdresser to cut above the band at the root end.
- Pack: Place dry plaits into a clear plastic freezer bag.
How to Post Your Donation
Place your bagged hair in a padded envelope. Please ensure you have the parcel weighed at the Post Office; the Trust cannot pay excess postal charges.

Important: Include your email address clearly written on a Hair Donation Slip so the Trust can email your certificate of thanks (usually arrives in 3-4 weeks).
